We (Scott and all my children ) had the awesome privilege of going to a benefit dinner last night in support of a friend, who was just a year ago diagnosed with ALS ( Lou Gehrig's disease. ) Toby, a DARLING mid- thirty year old is a police officer, married and has two sweet little girls. He has gone around Washington giving his L*E*G*A*C*Y speech, that is incredible. And last night he brought it to Utah, where he is originally from. He has a book in progress, which I highly recommend you get when it's released. The key points in his speech were that he has been blessed with this disease, because he now knows what is important in life. We are no different than him, because we will die also, so we must live life to the fullest the same as him. He doesn't worry about the future because it just takes away from today. He is fighting, and will not waste time crying and with negative thoughts. My favorite part of his speech was.... he has recently taken up water therapy. And because he is in a wheelchair they can wheel it down and do his therapy while he is in the chair. Well, not Toby, he wanted to get out of the chair and STAND, which he now does! He told the therapist on his first day at therapy, "I did not come here to float!"
This is my new motto in life... I'm going to live everyday swimming, not floating! Thanks Toby for such an inspirational speech! And the best to you and your family...

It really was a great speech! What an incredible man he is.
